Flip Chart Tips and Ideas
To Make Your Presenations More Professional
  • Always use a re-usable flip chart. You will not only save money but you'll also contribute to saving the rain forests.

  • Have some 'whiteout' sheets ready for when you make mistakes. Better still, use an erasble flip chart, where you can simply rub out your mistakes and carry on.

  • Rolling up Magic Flip Chart sheets after use will prolong it's life compared to folding it up.

  • Use large letters when writing on the flipchart, otherwise your audience won't be able to read what you have written. A good guide is to use 1" high letters for every 15' distance that your audience is away from you.

  • Use block capital letters when writing on your flip chart. Handwriting can sometimes be hard to decipher.

  • Use black or blue marker pens for writing. Only use coloured markers for diagrams. Never use more than 3 colours on a page.

  • Complete as much of the content prior to starting your presentation. This will save time during the prentation and stop your audince becoming bored whilst you are drawing.

  • Stand to one side of the flip chart whilst you are drawing, so that your audience can take notes as you go along.

  • Write your presentation key points down on a sheet of Magic Flip Chart and stick it up at the back of the room, to guide you along as you speak.

  • Place a few sheets of Magic Flip Chart around the room for people to write their questions on. Then at the end of the presentation, you can go through the list and provide the answers.

  • Do not speak whilst writing on the flip chart. Finish writing first, then turn and speak to your audience.

  • Always have a spare marker available in case one stops working during your presentation.

  • Don't walk backwards neart a flip chart. You run the risk of knocking over the easel. Ideally use a flip chart that fixes to the wall.

  • Use a sturdy easel - or again, preferably use a flip chart that fixes to a wall.

  • Avoid using light colours such as yellow, orange and pink. Light colours can be difficult to see by members of your audience.

  • Use flip charts with perforations along the top of each page, for a more professional job of tearing them off (in mid-presentation) easier.
